Read It
Have your child read the passage below.
The Incredible Edible Egg
When I was little, I remember an ad on TV trying to convince people (“pee-pul”) to eat more eggs.
It had a jingle, a song that went like this:
I love eggs.
From my head down to my legs.
Ooh, you got to love it, the incredible, edible egg.
It wasn't a good song. In fact, it was kind of terrible.
But I really do love eggs.
You can have them a million ways. You can fry them or scramble them. You can have them soft or hard.
Eggs are cheap and filling.
Or maybe, that silly song got stuck in my brain…
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Do you agree with the author about eggs? Why or why not?
In your own words, can you describe what a "jingle" is?
