The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
We recently worked on words like “age” and “stage” that follow the normal Magic E rule. Today we're going to work on exceptions like “damage” and “garbage.”
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud:
Garbage Man Day
Today is Garbage Man Day.
You may not think about the garbage man (or woman) very much. But they come, rain or shine, week after week. Although it may be smelly or stinky, they still pick up our trash and take it to the landfill.
Do you know what day the trash comes at your house? Do you help pick up the garbage around your home? Do you collect it from the bathroom or the basement? Do you take the full bag to the curb?
Today, thank your garbage men and women for all the dirty work that they do.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What day is it today?
What color is the garbage truck in your neighborhood?
