Today we're working on words like “ore” and “more.” If your child needs a refresher on how the Magic E works at the end of words, start here.
Now on to the lesson…
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
snort snore bore ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to the word "ore" and say it 3 times: ore
ore
ore
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words: bore
core
gore
wore
tore
shore
chore
snore
adore
ignore
Read It Have your child read the passage below:
Go to the Store
Before I watch more TV, Mom told me to do a chore for her. She needs me to go to the store.
She gives me a list of things to get. The list says:
Cow milk (one gallon)
Corn (three cans)
One jar of grape jelly
One carton of eggs
Nine limes
Turkey slices (one tray)
One cake mix
Plastic forks (for my brother's birthday party)
I know the store well. It was not a hard chore. And when I return with the stuff, she thanks me and gives me a big hug.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Can you remember 3 things the author has to buy?
In the story, someone is having a birthday party soon. Do you remember who?
