We've already worked on words that follow the normal Magic E rule like “bone” and “stone.”
Today we're going to work on words like “one" and “done.”
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
one done did ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to and say the word "one" three times (like the number 1): one
one
one
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words: done
none
undone
anyone
someone
everyone
Read It
In honor of Lost Sock Day, have your child read the passage below.
Lost Sock Day
Yesterday was “Lost Sock” Day.
A lost sock can be a pain. What do you do with just one sock?
Would you rather have one, or none?
Did you ever think about where that lost sock might be? Did it fall behind the bed, or is it stuck to your brother's shirt?
Was it a fun or festive sock? Did it have horses or bicycles on it?
Will anyone find it, or did a monster take it?
Lost Sock Day isn't much of a party. There is no singing or cake, but perhaps you can say goodbye to any lone socks that have lost their partner.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What day was it yesterday?
If you wanted to, how could you celebrate Lost Sock Day?
