Today we’re going to work on "-ay" words like “day” or “play." If your child wants or need more practice with the "-ay" or "-oy" sounds, start here.
Now on to today's lesson...

Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Read It Have your child read the passage below:
The Stray Dog
Today I met a dog on the street.
It was not with a person.
It did not have a tag on its neck.
Was it a stray?
“May I keep it?” I say to my mom.
No. Mom told me to shoo it away. “It may have lice!” she said.
Dad said we could not take it to the vet. He would not pay for it.
All of a sudden, a boy came running down the lane. He was frantic. He was looking for his lost dog.
The dog was not a stray! The nice boy gave it a pat, took it away, and said I could visit anytime I wanted.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What happened in the story?
What is a "stray" dog?
