Today we're working on words like “come” and “some.” These words are partially decodable, but they do NOT follow the normal “Magic E” rule.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
stun come some ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to and say the word "some" 3 times (it should rhyme with "hum" or "gum"): some
some
some
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words: come
comeback
income
become
welcome
someday
somehow
somewhat
something
sometime
someone
Read It
In honor of National Pizza Day, have your child read the passage below:
Pizza Day!
“It's pizza day!” I exclaim to my buddy Moira.
“I know!” she responds. “Do you want to come with me to get some?”
“Whoa, that would be a real treat!” I say.
“What do you like to eat on your pizza?” she asks.
“Well, sometimes I like it plain. Or sometimes I like to eat it with pepperoni. And you? Is there something you would like to try? Mushrooms? Garlic? Eggplant?”
Moira thinks for a moment. Then she grins and says, “You know, any day I get to eat pizza is a good day for me.”
And I agree!
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What day is it today?
Do you agree with Moira when she says, "any day you get to eat pizza is a good day?"
