Today we're working on Magic E words like "bone" and "stone." If your child needs more practice with this sound, start here.
Now on to the lesson…
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
fly drone phone ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to the word "bone" and say it 3 times: bone

------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words: cone
tone
lone
zone
shone
stone
alone
throne
trombone
Read It
Have your child read the passage below:
The Lone Scone
My mom lets me pick a treat at the store.
It has to be a small one, she says, so I don't spoil my dinner.
I look at all the muffins and treats. I can't pick which one I want.
“Should I flip a coin?” my mom asks.
“No,” I say. I plead for more time.
I point at a lone scone all the way in the corner. “Is it moist?” I ask the lady.
She says yes. “Would you like me to heat it up first, or shall I wrap it up for you?” she asks.
Oh no, not another choice!
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What is a scone? Are there any clues about scones in the story?
What is the author's main problem in the story?
