I Hate Snakes

We go on a walk the day after Thanksgiving.

As we are trekking along, I see a snake slither along the path.

“Snake!” I yell, as I turn and run away. My pants snag on a twig, and I trip and fall in the mud.

My brother snickers at me. “That wasn’t a snake. It was just a stick,” he says.

But I did not make a mistake. I show him the spot.

There it is lurking in the grass. It is just a small green snake, but I still hate seeing them! ------------------------------- Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What happened when the author saw the snake?

  2. Can you describe the snake that the author saw?
