Today we’re going to work on words like “time” or “dime." If your child wants or need more practice on the "Magic E" and the long "i" sound, start here.
Now on to today's lesson...
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
crime steal slime ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to the sound and say it 3 times: ...ime
...ime
...ime
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words: dime
time
lime
mime
chime
crime
prime
grime
bedtime
anytime
Read It Have your child read the passage below:
Playtime
My pal Shane is visiting today.
First, we play slime in the kitchen. He didn’t bring his, so I lend him mine.
Then Shane and I play a game of basketball. We only have one ball, so we take turns shooting at the hoop.
Next, we go to my room to make paper planes. I tell Shane that the key is to fold them well so they fly in a line.
But then, Mom walks in. She says play time is over. Now it is lunch time. ------------------------------- Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What happens in the story?
What is the name of the author's friend?
