The Crab Was Cross

Walt is a crab. He was in a bad mood. He was feeling cross.

As he crept along the sand, he got a small crack in his shell. When he went to fetch help, he got lost.

Walt wanted to sulk on his own. But just then, he got a sudden jolt.

His pal Mitch (a lobster) can help. Walt needed a pal to talk to.

After Walt and Mitch went on a long walk, Walt felt better.

And he didn’t feel cross any longer. ------------------------------- Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. Why was Walt in a bad mood?

  2. What type of animal was Mitch? How did he cheer up Walt?
