The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
If you want to review any prior lessons, those are all freely available here.
Today we're working on the "au" sound in the word "August" or "auto."
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
ball haul bring ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to and read the word "August" three times (each time they should say it a bit faster): Au gust
Au gust
August
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words out loud:
haul
maul
haunt
taunt
gaunt
aunt
launch
author
laundry
Read It
Start here if your child needs a refresher on the “aw” sound. Then have your child read the passage below out loud:
Saul Helps
Saul woke up at dawn. He yawned and hauled himself out of bed. Then he saw a paw print in the mud and knew someone needed help.
Saul saw a hawk and asked the hawk, “Did you see who made these prints?”
The hawk said, “Yes. It was a skunk who needs help. He went that way.”
Saul followed the prints until he found a skunk with a thorn in its paw.
Saul helped take out the thorn, and the skunk gave a sigh.
It was nice to get to know a new neighbor.
