The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're reviewing words like "dance" and "fence.” If your child needs more practice with this sound, start here.
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
pants
shirt
dance
-------------------------------
Say It
Have your child point to and say the word "dance" three times (it rhymes with "ants"):
d ance
d ance
dance
-------------------------------
Blend It
Have your child read these words out loud:
chance
glance
advance
balance
fence
absence
evidence
wince
prince
convince

Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud. (If you want to dance along, check out this short YouTube clip.):
The Chicken Dance
Today is Dance Like a Chicken Day.
The chicken dance is a bit silly, but here is how to do it:
Make a beak with your hands. Open and close them four times.
Tuck your arms in and use them as “wings.” Flap your “wings” four times.
Shake your hips and your bottom four times.
Stomp and clap your hands four times.
That's it! Then do it again. And, if you want to make it extra silly, you can say, “bawk bawk bawk bawk” along with the beat.
Did you manage to get it right? If so, try to teach it to your mom or dad.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
In your own words, what are the steps of The Chicken Dance?
Without looking back, can you spell the word "fence?"
