Today we're going to work on adding an "r" at the end of Magic E words. These can be tricky, so remind your child that the Magic E still makes the vowel say its name.
Â
Now on to the lesson…Â
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
maker faker phoney ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to and read the word "user" three times: use r

Read It
In honor of International Waffle Day, have your child read the passage below.
Waffle Day
Â
It's Waffle Day!
Â
A waffle is sort of like a pancake. It is made from flour, milk, eggs, and butter. It often has sugar as well.
Â
Instead of cooking them in a pan, you cook waffles in a waffle maker.
Â
Waffle makers come in all shapes and sizes. The normal ones are round or square, but there are ones that look like Mickey Mouse or cars or flowers or animals.
Â
You can put chocolate chips and whipped cream on waffles… or you can just eat them plain.
Â
What would you put on a waffle?Â
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What day is it today?
Based on what you learned in the story, how are waffles made?
