The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
We've already covered simple “or” words like “fork.”
Today we're going to work on words with slightly different pronunciations (at least in the U.S.), like “work” and “actor.”
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
jerk
twist
work
-------------------------------
Say It
Have your child point to and say the word "word" three times (like "werk"):
work
work
work
-------------------------------
Blend It
Have your child read these words out loud:
worker
works
working
network
artwork
actor
tractor
effort
sponsor
director

Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud:
No Homework!
Yesterday was No Homework Day.
When Dan ran into class, Miss Bell had a big grin. “Today is No Homework Day!” she said.
The kids all went, “Yay!” and gave each other high fives.
Max did a flip.
Sandy did a clap.
“No math? No list to spell?” said Dan.
“Nope!” said Miss Bell. “You can read. You can draw. You can put your effort into anything you want.”
Dan got four different books to read.
Max got a pad to draw.
Sandy raced to the wood pattern blocks.
“I wish it was No Homework Day every day,” said Dan.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What happened in the story?
What did the kids decide to do with their free time?
