The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're going to work on words like “house” and “mouse.”
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
house
moose
mouse
-------------------------------
Say It
Have your child point to and say the word "mouse" three times (like Mickey Mouse):
mouse
mouse
mouse
-------------------------------
Blend It
Have your child read these words out loud:
house
spouse
blouse
doghouse
henhouse
nuthouse
outhouse
icehouse
jailhouse
firehouse
Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud.
Play Monopoly Day
To play the game of Monopoly, you start by picking a little boot, a thimble, a car, or a dog. Every player gets the same amount of money.
Every time you go around the board, you pass the “Go” space and you get to collect $200 dollars.
After the game begins, your main job is to try to buy property and then put up houses.
If another player lands on your property, they have to pay you rent. If your property has houses on it, the rent will cost a lot more.
Try it sometime! You may cry or shout, but I predict you will have fun.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
In Monopoly, how much money do you get when you pass "Go?"
Without looking back, can you spell the word "house?"
