How I Control My Rage

When I am really, really boiling mad, I take three steps to control my rage:

First, I take a deep breath in.

Second, I wait for ten seconds.

Third, I point to what is making me mad and I say to myself, “This is not worth blowing my top over.”

Those three things help me disengage and control my rage.

Now, when I forget what page I'm on in my book, or when I find the candy jar is empty, or when my brother hogs the stage, I can control my rage.

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What is "rage?" What makes you really, really angry?

  2. What does the author of the story do to calm down?
