The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're reviewing words that end in a hard vowel sound, like “hi” and “go.” If your child needs a refresher, start here.
You can review all of the prior lessons here.

Read It
Velcro was patented on this day in 1958. In honor of Velcro, have your child read the passage below out loud:
Velcro
Velcro was invented by a Swiss man. He was out walking with his dog and saw that burrs were getting stuck in his pants and in his dog's fur.
When he was done with his walk, he looked at those burrs under a microscope and saw that they made a small hook that got stuck in things.
So the man made Velcro with hooks on one side and small hoops on the other. The hooks get stuck in the loops to make it tight and secure.
You might use Velcro in your every day life. It works for carpets, jackets, and more. It even went to space!
And it all started from a nature walk!
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
In your own words, how was Velcro invented?
Can you think of anything in your house with Velcro?
