Daily(ish) Decodable: The "-oll" sound in "roll"

The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.

If you want to review any prior lessons, those are all freely available here

Today we're going to work on the "-oll" sound in words like "roll" or "toll."

Rhyme It Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Have your child read the passage below out loud:

Roller Coaster Day

Today is August sixteenth.

It is also Roller Coaster Day!

Have you ever been on a roller coaster? Do you love them or hate them?

A roller coaster has a few small cars on a track. You get into a car, sit down, and tighten your belt to stay safe. You don't have to drive the cars—they go automatically.

The cars can go up or down, right or left, but they have to stay on the track.

Some roller coasters can even go in loops or upside down!

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What day is it today?

  2. Can you describe a roller coaster to someone who has never seen one before?
