The Need for Speed

After it snows, I like to go sledding.

And when I go sledding, I do not want to go slow.

I feel the need. The need for speed.

I sit on my sled, feet first. I slide back and forth. And then with a big push, I start my ride.

I pick up speed as I go. I can feel the wind in my face. What a thrill!

I race back up to do it all over. And over. Until my hands and feet get cold.

But I will be back. In fact, I could do this all week!

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. Would you say the author is a cautious person? Why or why not?

  2. What made the author eventually stop sledding?
