Today we're going to work on the “-ed” sound at the end of words. We're going to start with the easiest one today, but see here if your child needs a refresher.
Now on to the lesson…
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
began started carted ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to the "-ted" sound and say it three times: ...ted
...ted
...ted
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words (and note that they all end in "ted" or "ded"): hunted
added
crowded
scolded
needed
seeded
coated
loaded
floated
painted
fainted
Read It
Have your child read the passage below.
Yesterday
Yesterday was a fun day. Here is a list of everything I did:
I intended to read those new books, but I got distracted by some tv.
Mom limited my screen time, so then I started a puzzle.
After lunch, I pretended to take a nap.
In a game of hide and seek, I counted to twenty and then hunted for my brother. I spotted him sitting there behind the chair.
It was a good day. I would repeat it again.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
In your own words, what did the author do yesterday?
Did the author take a nap yesterday? How do you know?
