The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're going to work on blending the “-unch” sound like in words like “lunch” or “punch."
Start here if your child needs a refresher on this sound.
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Remind your child that we recently covered the word “juice.” Then have your child read the passage below out loud:
Punch Day
Have you ever had punch?
There are two kinds of punches. There is the one where you swing your fist. That is punching.
But there is another kind. Punch is also the name of a drink. You might drink it for lunch or brunch.
Punch is often made in a big punch bowl, but it's not hard to make it.
First, cut up some fruit such as lemon or peaches. Put the fruit into a glass of Sprite, sparkling water, or fruit juice. After that, plunk in some ice.
Stir it all up, and then enjoy the punch!
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
There are two meanings for the word "punch." Can you explain the difference?
If you had to make a punch to drink, what would you put in it?
