Read It

Have your child read the passage below out loud:

Sue the T-Rex

Today is Monday, August 12th.

On this day in 1990, a fossil hunter by the name of Susan Hendrickson saw some big bones jutting out of the dirt.

The bones were part of a tyrannosaurus rex (T-Rex) skeleton. It was named “Sue,” after the woman who found it.

Sue was the most complete T-Rex skeleton ever found at that time, and she helped us understand a lot more about T-Rexes.

Today, Sue's skeleton sits on display at a gallery in Chicago.

This is a true story!

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What day is it today?

  2. Can you explain what a "fossil" is?
