Read It

Have your child read the passage below out loud:

Left-Handers Day

Today is August thirteenth.

It is also Left-Handers Day.

About one in every ten people (“pee-pul”) are left-handed. That means they prefer to use their left hand.

Are you right- or left-handed? Do you write, draw, throw, or use a fork with your right hand, or with your left? Do you know anyone who is left-handed?

I am right-handed, but it must be hard to be left-handed. The world is built for us right-handed people.

Tonight, try to use your left hand to eat dinner. It might be fun!

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What day is it today?

  2. Without looking back, can you spell the word "right?"
