Daily(ish) Decodable: Reviewing "-ake" words

The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.

Today we're going to review Magic E words like “rake” and “snake.” (If your child needs a refresher on this sound, start here.)

You can review all of the prior lessons here

Rhyme It Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Have your child read the passage below out loud:

Make Your Bed Day

Today is Make Your Bed Day.

When you wake up in the morning, do you stay in bed to sleep a bit longer? Do you take the sheets and pull them up nice and tight?

Or do you get in motion, jump out of bed, and start the day right away?

And when you do get up, do you make your bed?

Look around the bedrooms in the house. What do you notice? Do your mother, father, sister, brother, grandfather, or grandmother make the bed?

Me? I like seeing a bed that is made up all nice. But I can't say that I enjoy doing it.

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. Without looking, can you spell the word "make?"

  2. How many words can you rhyme with "make?"
