Review Day: The Farmer and the Banker

Welcome back to Read Not Guess. Today is a review day. We’ll practice blending the sounds we learned this week and then give your kids a short “decodable” text to practice.

Both parent and child will need to be able to see the screen.

Let’s get started.

Word Practice

We’re going to work on blending sounds into words. Your child can start slowly by saying each sound individually, but each time, they should try to say it just a bit faster.

Ask your child to say the correct sounds as they point to the letters:

m ax

max

And:

b ox

box

And:

s ix

six

Now let’s try a couple harder ones:

sh ir t

shirt

And:

f ir st

first

Silly Sentences

These are a little tricky, but see if your child can sound these out:

I fell down. But it didn’t hurt. I am so over it.

Silly Story

Now see if your child can read this short story:

The Farmer and the Banker

One of them digs up roots.

The other adds up numbers.

One of them works in a barn.

The other fixes my math.

One of them runs after foxes.

The other helps me do my taxes.

That’s it for today. We’ll see you next time.
