Daily(ish) Decodable: Again

The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud. 

Today we're going to review the word "again." It is a very common word, but it doesn't follow the normal rule.

Rhyme It

Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Have your child point to and say the word "again" three times:

Do it again.

Not again.

Oops, I did it again.

Begin again.

Have your child read the passage below out loud:

Be a Kid Again

Last weekend, I was thinking about being a kid again. There are a number of things that I did as a kid:

When it was summertime, I played outside until it got dark.

When I needed money, I made lemonade to sell at a lemonade stand.

When I was sleepy, I stayed asleep until noon.

When I was older, I started a lawn-mowing company.

When I got hungry, I rode my bike to the store to get candy and snacks.

Oh, to be a kid again!

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

1. In your own words, what was today's story about?

2. What did the author do when they were hungry?
